More new stuff!

So Lately I have been really busy and haven't had all the time in the world to do some of the design things that I want to do.

Until now!

So here are some new things that I have worked on.

I designed the layout for a local company in St. George Utah that test soil for construction. I also helped code it and provide content etc. I would like to do more of this.

Here is the link.

Below is a new image I did with splatter and some trees. Again thanks for viewing and giving me your thoughts and opinions. I could not get better or grow without them.

I love design.

The best part about having fun!

I have always been drawn to the arts and being able to create. Now that I have been learning and growing in what I love doing it has made me feel joy with life.
Even when it is something as simple as taking my picture and adding different elements to it.

Before

After

I have also recently been working on finishing up a website for a geotechnical firm here in St. George. Take some time to check it out and tell me what you think. The site is totally responsive and is at this point 100% HTML5 and CSS. Just click the link below.

Photoshop Fun

So I was assigned to do a photoshop assignment where I needed to take a picture. The picture could be old, new, or something random. I then needed to add elements to it. I kept thinking of all the funny photobombs I could do. All the selfies I could make look more ridiculous then they already were and are. The random items I could make float.

I went to my family and asked for old pictures of my Grandparents. My Grandma passed when my Father was 13 years old. My Grandpa passed when I was either three or five. I would have loved to known them. I had a few images that where shared over Facebook and I decided that these were the ones I wanted to use.

I believe this first one is my favorite. I have always wondered what he would be like and if he was still here what advise he would have been able to give me during the good and the hard times.

This second one I thought would be fun because of how the photo was set up. It was as if someone was supposed to be sitting in the passenger seat.

Card Design.

Though they may seem very basic. It is the simplicity of the design that actually keeps a customer from questioning "what am I looking at?"
The designs presented are two companies in Salt Lake City that I was contracted through a St. George local company to create some business cards. Some of you may also like to know that I am currently learning how to design websites via HTML, CSS, CSS3 and other languages such as Python.

Below are the Images for the cards that have been designed, excepted and currently used.

Some of you are probably looking at this saying "he can't stay in the lines!" These are images of the the final with the 1/4" bleed section attached.

The deal with dirt!

I bet your thinking this might be a rant or rave type post and that it will be filled with dirt. Well it will have dirt but no rant or raves. This is a portfolio blog of the projects I do. About a month ago I designed a logo for a drilling company (Get the dirt title now?). Anyways, this logo will be put on their drilling rig and when it has been displayed expect some good pictures of the rig.

Proof reading

So I have been going back to school for a certificate in Graphic and Web Design, and one of the assignment that I had was to create a Magazine article that would target 18-24 year olds. I wanted to focus on something in-state, so I chose the Utah Food Bank. This was a final project and turned out really good except that I had two versions. The first one I used a word that was just a bad choice and the second had its' replacement. The sad part as you have probably already guessed by the title of this post is that I turned in the bad on not looking at it very well once it was printed and mounted. So here is to learning. Here is the first.
And the one I should have turned in.
Enjoy!

A leader of our band

So around the age of 17 or 18 a good friend of mine introduced to me a song written by Dan Fogelber. The song is titled "Leader of the band," and is one of my favorite folk tunes. The song has always spoken to me, and many of you know that my family is very musically talented. In recent years I have somewhat abandoned music playing. I do still listen to music but haven't played very much. I really still have a passion for playing but find that I am usually short on time. What I love about the song is how it reminds me of the relationship between me and my dad. It started out really rough in my early years but over time my love for my father has made this song have more meaning. So this piece that I present to you is an image of my father playing the mandolin at an early age. I titled it "Legacy" because that is what he has placed before his children. The same for my mother. Since tomorrow is Fathers Day I felt it necessary to show the tribute I made for him since he lives four hours away. Love you dad.

Poster Pic

About three years ago when I stopped being a wether man for KCSG (through the University) I was out driving to my in-laws house when we drove past a house that was billowing with smoke. I ran home got my camera and drove back and took some pictures. This one has always been my favorite. I just love the way the smoke reflected the light. I decided to use it as a poster image using only monochromatic color. Since I am a current volunteer firefighter in training I thought it would be cool to put one word to it. I don't care for St. George fire department because they are completely political, however I love this pic and the end result.
This is the poster I made out of it.
I threw a couple of lines in with different tints and filters and felt it looked cool.

A Hand For Land

This is a poster I made in indesign for a project of my mom's family coat of arms. When you read the story you will go back to the first sentence typed here and note that there should be a pun. Anyways for the most part I think it turned out well.
Anyways since you probably can't read it, here is the text and story that I found. This Legend tells of a pact among the seven sons of Miledh of Esbain, the Celtic king who's sons conquered Ireland. The rule of the new land would be whosoever among them first touched the soil of the island. As the flotilla(a small fleet of ships) approached the shore, one of the sons took his sword, cut off his right hand and threw it to land, thus claiming sovereignty. This story appears to relate to similar myth relating to Erimhon who is reputed to have been the first Celtic ruler of the northern part of Ireland. His Brother Ebher ruled the southern half. They were the only two of the seven brothers who survived the original conquest, appearing to be a continuation of the earlier episode. As the first story conflicts with the laws of Ireland relating to the abhorrence of any physical imperfection of kings, it would seem that this legendary king my perhaps have subsequently been on of the two surviving brothers of the first segment and possibly somehow the source of the ultimately abhorrent physical defect rule for reasons lost in time possibly in a 'middle' segment. However there is another legend which may apply. This tale appears chronologically after the Origin Myth relating to a subsequent, King og the Tuatha De Danann (Nuada), who, the saga tells, was of the owner of an invincible sword, who had his right hand severed by Sreng during a great battle with the Fomorians [one of the earliest Legendary Tribes of Ireland]. With all that being said. No imperfect man being allowed to hold the throne, Nuada was forced to abdicate in favor of Bres. However, a silver hand was fashioned for him from the power of ancient magic but still the people would not accept him as their King. The new aperture began to fester and the severed hand of Nuada was eventually exhumed and with the power of ancient magic caused flesh and sinew to grow back around the prosthesis. Bres had proved to be a tyrant and when the Tuatha de Danann exiled Bres. Nuada resumed his position as King but was later killed By Balor...

RMZ Distribution Logo's

Here are some logo designs I did for a company. I approached the owner and asked him some basic questions like the services that the company provided and what made them unique. I also asked him what colors he would like. He said "Red,Yellow and Gold." The color choice was very bright and vibrant and what is what he said he wanted. The color scheme seemed a little analogous. So I did a few other options in complimentary colors in what I would call an artist recommendation.
These last two are my artist recommendation.

Figure/Ground

This new blog will be a site to give my design work a little online attention and act as it is titled, a "Portfolio." I am open to comments and criticisms to help me better this skill. These images are logos I did with my initials.
